KERALA, GOD’S OWN COUNTRY

Wall Paintings in “God’s Own Country”

I went to South India which is popularly known as Kerala, God’s Own Country with one of my like-minded friends. Basically, we had an official trip to Sri Lanka. It was pre-decided that on our way back, we halted for a couple of days in Kerala. It was long due on my tour bucket list. The way I’m sharing my travel experience, I’m hopeful that visitors will get some sort of inspiration to be there. Certainly, readers will have fair idea to travel Kerala in a cheaper and comfortable way to fit their itinerary.

If anyone ever comes across the TV commercial of Kerala Tourism on a satellite channel, it says, “God’s Own Country”. Undoubtedly, this tagline rightly complements this delta region with natural beauty. Scenic Kerala comprises serene stretches of lakes, canals, and lagoons located parallel to the coast of the Arabian Sea. Obviously, the channel is so pristine and natural that one could spend the entire life here.

UNCONVENTIONAL COLOMBO EXPERIENCE

The Old Parliament Building
The Old Parliament Building, Colombo

I was successful to visit unconventional Colombo on my third attempt. Generally speaking, Sri Lanka is famous for cricket games, the beaches, and homegrown teas, or for an Elephant Safari. Most visitors can plan to see the colonial beauty of Sri Lanka by keeping these mentioned activities in a broader sense. My trip was totally different from others. It was neither for tourism nor for business, nor for enjoying cricket. It was for attending the annual DAN Regional Conference trip with colleagues where I used to work in the advertising industry. Confining in a 5-star hotel in Colombo for 48 hours, naysayer may say, it was boring. In reality, it was not.

I tried to extract the tourism flair out of this official tour. I remembered the walk with my colleagues from the Ministry of Crab to Hilton Colombo after having a mouthwatering seafood dinner. Now, I am going to share my Colombo travelogues which are totally different from the regular tour plan.

Pazhou, Guangzhou
World-famous Canton Fair Exhibition Complex, Pazhou

Traveling to China for the first time as a Bangladeshi can be a nerve-racking task. Though the title says “Business Discipline” but really this post applies to any Non-Chinese person of any gender who is interested to explore China for a business venture. I know, traveling to China for the first time in 2010, was a thought-provoking proposition for me because I traveled all alone by myself. GANGTOK, THE JEWEL OF INDIA

Iconic view of Gangtok City

CONQUERED THE JEWEL OF INDIA

We had an untold fear in back of our mind from entering in the city of the jewel of India, Sikkim when we reached in Jalpaiguri. Everyone needs an Inner Line Permit including Indian citizens to enter this north-east state of India. For the foreigners, it takes more rigidity but it’s not like that they don’t allow us to enter. That’s why we used a strategy that really worked for us. I and Pulak were confident because it worked before with other street smart tourists.

Our friend Pulak’s relatives reside in Kolkata permanently for a long time. We have given our information based on local address to the Security Officer at the first security check point. That’s why we didn’t face any problem whatsoever while entering the Sikkim. While Pulak was handling this issue with the security officer then I and Tanzin didn’t talk to anyone. It was a funny scene. We laughed out loud later when we successfully got our Inner Line Permit.

LALBAGH FORT II INCOMPLETE SAGA

Lalbagh Fort
Lalbagh Fort, a pride of Dhakaite

Lalbagh Fort is still one of the finest places in Dhaka City that original Dhakaite people (Dhakaiya) consider for. I visited several times in this fort to spend leisure time with solo and friends from my teenhood. Lalbagh Fort took a very special place in my heart. I still visit alone whenever I get time. My last visit during Pandemic times, refreshed me to blog for Lalbagh Fort. I just love visiting this place time and again. Now I’ll explain the backdrop of Lalbagh Fort to my readers those who are not aware of this majestical fort. Lalbagh Fort, locally known as Lalbagh Kella is a great architectural artwork by Mughal Empire in Bangladesh. The Fort is located in the southwestern part of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, which is commonly known as old Dhaka. The Lalbagh Fort is one of the most popular places among local inhabitants.

Pantai Cenang Beach, Langkawi Island
Pantai Cenang Beach, Langkawi Island

When we visited the treasured Langkawi Island, Tourism Malaysia campaigned heavily “Malaysia, Truly Asia” in Bangladesh through newspaper and TV commercials. We were sold to visit Malaysia out of this campaign; I am not exaggerating a single word, seriously!! Their campaign’s strategy was to portray iconic places like KL City, Langkawi Beaches and Genting Highland of Malaysia and many more. That was a successful campaign because picturesque Malaysia was so compelling. Like us, many tourists visited Malaysia during that time from Bangladesh. After 3 days of exploring KL City, we were bound to visit Langkawi.
